With great pride and joy I went to the exalted country of Japan to celebrate the 100th birthday of my grandma Tiyo, mother of my father Issao.
I left California on the 1st of August, 2009, arrived at Narita airport in Japan on the 2nd of August were I was expected by my gracious aunts: Fumiko and Hatsue and chivalrous uncle Yukio. From there we went on an one hour train ride to Tokyo and then another 4 hour bus ride to Fukushima, arriving at uncle Nobuo’s, and his wife Kumiko’s, house at 10:30 that night. I paid my respects to the family memorial and the picture of my grandfather Yuzo. He is Tiyo’s late husband and father of Nobuo, Isao, Hatsue, Katsundo, Takao and Fumiko.
